Feng Shui Tips on How to Choose the Best Headboard
Myth – That one needs a headboard to create a sense of support.
My take on the subject – From a practical stand point to have a headboard or not to have a headboard is a matter of personal opinion. For me it is a matter of understanding the why before jumping into a fear based mentality.
Generally speaking due to architectural design the head of the bed is for the most part placed on an outside wall. Therefore, in most climates the said wall may be rather cool during the cold months. Therefore, the practicality of a headboard offers a warm barrier between the top of your head/crown chakra and the coolness of the exterior wall reducing any chill from drafts.
If one should choose a headboard the material of which the headboard is made does impact the electromagnetics of one’s energetic bodies.
Headboard Styles
1. Boxy or square headboards are good for people who are flighty and un-grounded who need a little structure in their lives.
2. Wood and or leather/vinyl are rather masculine and are good for people who are comfortable with yang (masculine) energy, or who feel they need to have extra security in their lives.
3. A wing-backed headboard has both structure and flow bringing balance in both yin (feminine) and yang (masculine) energy to a room.
4. Textile upholstered headboards in velvet, damask, chintz; linen, etc. express a sense of femininity to a room while being good for people who are comfortable with their emotions and sensitive side.
5. Curved and arched headboards are excellent for people who like to go with the flow or who would benefit from being less ridged in their lives.
6. A solid camel-backed headboard is good for providing mental clarity and problem solving for individuals who are more abstract in their thinking. While on the flip side the shape could cause someone who is over analytical to become trapped in their monkey mind.
7. Ornate curvy, upholstered headboards are very feminine and could be beneficial for someone who is detached from their “feelings” and sensitive side. However, this type of headboard could attract someone who has an up-it sense of superiority.
8. My personal favourite style of headboard is relief panels. I love their ornament dreamy organic feel. As most relief panels do not have legs or the proper fittings to attach to a bed frame they are best hung securely onto the wall to ensure they do not fall and cause injury.
Relief panel headboards such as the one below are perfect for people who love the exotic and dream of faraway places.
9. There is a growing interest in creating headboards from reclaimed doors and other vintage and antique odds and sods when doing so it is very important to clear the pre-existing energy from the previous owners from the items before bringing them into your personal space. Again make sure that whatever you reclaimed and re-purposed items you use is secured properly to the wall to reduce the risk of injury.
Don’t forget the first golden “principle” of Feng Shui is all about creating a bedroom that you love that wraps you in all kinds of feel good vibrations.
